"Within aged wooden frames, images graphically reflect realities seen through the eyes of a young Chicano. Oscar Magallanes doesn’t merely gaze at his surroundings; he steps in, questions and documents the transformations brought on by the realities of human existence when affected by things such as NAFTA, homelessness and immigration. He documents to remind us of what perhaps we have overlooked or may not have seen in the same manner. He documents to educate and intentionally provoke some sort of internal change." |

"From all his pieces, you gain un cachito de esperanza. You know that to every injustice being displayed, there is always a sense of justice being reclaimed. Just the simple fact that people are being made aware of things they had either ignored or never known is an act of justice. Those are the ramifications of speaking truth through images. It is like trying to seek the Ometeotl and with every death, every tragedy, something must come to restore the balance of life."
