Artwork featured in The Roots Jam Session

I was lucky enough to have been approached by Michelynn Woodard from Be the Change/Opportunity Nation about creating some journals and poster using images of inspirational people. They liked my Martin Luther King Jr. portrait and was commissioned to create 6 more to feature on the Posters used to help kick off and promote Opportunity Nation at the Roots Jam Session. Here are a few images of the finished posters.

El Veterano II

Revisited the Veterano image I created a few years back for the up coming show at Crewest dealing with Skid Row and homelessness. On any given night there are 8,000 homeless veterans in LA alone. Something to think about.

Sacred Memories

I will be installing my Alta Altar in this show. Here is the info:

The Art Exhibition Sacred Memories: Contemporary and Cross Cultural Expression of Day of the Dead will be on display at the Pico House Gallery October 30 through November 28th, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00p.m. (Wednesday through Sunday only.)  The exhibit features work from local Los Angeles and national artists using a variety of medium including paint and sculpture.  The exhibit also includes altar and shrine installations and explores Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead and other rituals venerating departed loved ones.

You are cordially invited to attend the opening reception to be held on Friday October 29th from 6:00-9:00pm at the Pico House.  We welcome your participation in this exhibit and ask you to add a sacred memory of your own to the Community Altar which will also be on display.  Items may include a photo, special object or other non-perishable item.

As part of the opening reception there will be a performance excerpt of “Calavereando” written and directed by Paulina Sahagun.  Experience the humorous dancing and singing of the politically satirical Calacas dancers.  It is an evening of culture and art not to be missed!
